Goal #45 – Blogging Twice a Week for Two Months
In an ideal world, a company should update their blog numerous times each week. This is important for SEO and also for clients to see that you are in fact an active company.
Over the last two years, I’ve consistently blogged once a week. Once a week is good, but it’s definitely not ideal, so when I put together my 101 Goals in 1001 Days I included blogging. My goal… blogging twice a week for two months.
I picked twice a week because it is a step up from once a week but not as overwhelming as doing it every other day. I picked two months because I figured that would be enough time to make it a habit. I was right. Had I immediately gone back to blogging once a week, I wouldn’t be writing this blog post right now. But it’s Thursday and that’s one of my twice a week blog days, so here I am.
I know as a photographer, it can be hard to blog regularly during the slow season. As a wedding photographer who has already blogged all of my weddings and engagement sessions from last year, I wasn’t sure what I was going to write about when I started. But then I got creative and decided to make myself useful. I’ve been shooting weddings for five years, and I have a lot of knowledge stuffed up in my brain that other photographers and clients might actually find useful. There’s also a lot of behind the scenes events that I decided to share.
So over the last two months I’ve blogged about engagement session tips, bringing dogs to your wedding, awards I’ve won, and bridal shows I’ve attended. I’ve blogged about what a couple should expect to pay for wedding photography, a wedding I second shot and about a vendor I love. I’ve blogged about wedding venues I’ve visited, my no travel fee wedding destinations, wedding wines for under $10, and about my Denver Pet Photography website
And now I have a list of a hundred other blog topics that I will use in the future. The fact is, your clients want to know what you’re up to, people want you to share your knowledge and Google wants you to update your blog regularly.
This was a great experience and something I hope to continue throughout the year. Even during the busy season.
