Rachel and Nick were married at the Grant Humphrey’s Mansion in Denver, Colorado in August 2013. It was a beautiful day and they were a great couple to work with. So full of life and love! Thank you to Lori Kennedy of Lori Kennedy Photography for inviting me to second shoot with you. It’s always a pleasure working with you!
On this particular day, I got to hang out with the guys. Nick and his groomsmen were super fun, trying to one up each other on who could offend me more. Sorry guys, I’m a climber, you have a long way to go.
It was also a good thing that Nick was so handy with an iron and a tie. Otherwise, his groomsmen would have been hopeless! Way to step up, Nick. Your groomsmen appreciated it.
And then there was the first look! Up until the first look, I hadn’t met Rachel. I had a pretty favorable impression of her by the way Nick talked about her and when I first got a glance of her sneaking up behind him, I thought to myself, “Wow, Nick was right.” She looked amazing.
While we were waiting on Rachel to show up, he told me about how they had met and fallen for each other. He seemed really calm. I asked him if he was nervous at all and he said no, he just couldn’t wait to see her. Then when I saw her, I said “Wow, she looks amazing.” And he smiled at me and said, “She always does.” Absolute contentment. There isn’t an ounce of doubt in Nick’s mind, Rachel is his soul-mate.
Moments like this, where the love of the couple I’m photographing is so consuming that I can feel it too, these are the moments that make me love my job.
After the first look, we headed off to Rachel and Nick’s ceremony at the Grand Humphrey’s Mansion in downtown Denver. I’d never shot at the Mansion before, so I was quite excited and for good reason. It was beautiful inside and out. It was also one of those perfect Colorado days, when the skies are warm with sun, the sunlight is diffused by the clouds and color just pops. Amazing!
The ceremony was just the beginning of an amazing day though. The party was going strong all night. This was the type of wedding that you see in movies, where everyone is happy and having a great time, dancing and laughing. It’s how everyone envisions their own wedding day. It was pure happiness.
Congratulations you two!
