Have you ever met someone and instantly liked them? Thought they were one of the coolest people ever? Well, that’s Lilli from Bella Calla. She’s personable, fun to be around and energetic. She’s always coming up with great ideas and every single floral piece I’ve seen of hers has been AMAZING. Seriously. One of the best Denver floral designers, hands down.
So let’s get to know Lilli a little bit better…
About Bella Calla
How did you come up with the name “Bella Calla”?
Bella means “beautiful” in Italian. Calla is a type of Lily. It was meant to mea “beautiful things by Lilli” or something of the sort. I love alliteration, and I wanted to use it in the name.
How long has Bella Calla been in business?
Since 2011. I have been in the floral business since 2003.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I am unemployable. I am precocious, strong minded, and I make up my own mind about how things should run. Those characteristics, plus the inefficiencies I ran into in the corporate world pretty much drove me nuts. I also LOVE having my hands in the dirt, working with flowers, plants and all things growing. It just added up to building Bella Calla into something that made me happy every day and gave me the venue to service my clients with the world-class service we provide, while getting my hands just as dirty as I want to every day.
What is your primary role in the business?
I fluctuate between social (networking) butterfly, lead designer and artist, online marketing and web developer, sales and client services and owner/manager. I wear lots of hats, happily. I have worked hard to build and train a team to work under me and support my business. They support me in all of these roles.
What makes your floral design business unique?
We offer concierge floristry, and artistic, innovative floral designs. We have a full service wood shop, can build wedding and event structures to suit. We also offer the highest quality florals and some of the top artists and designers in the state working to make every wedding or event unique and inventive.
What do you love most about working in the wedding business?
The Clients. We LOVE our clients. They are what makes me able to do my dream job every day.
Who is your ideal client?
Someone who has a bit of an artistic mind, a flair for the different. A budget helps, of course, but really what we love is someone who lets us express our fleeting floral art to make their event stand out from all the others… and make it memorable among those to come. Someone who lets us express the RAD art we have to give.
If you could give one piece of advice to couples who are shopping for wedding floral design, what would it be?
Let the artists do what they do. Pick someone you trust, whether for cakes, photos or flowers, give them a bit of direction and let them SOAR. You picked them because you loved their art. Let them soar. Let them show off what they do best.
What do you like to do in your free time?
HA! I do this in my free time, mostly. In all seriousness, I LOVE SCUBA diving, reading, camping, hiking and dining. Wine and food are happy passions.
What is the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?
Starting my own business, probably. That’s a pretty serious jump off a cliff. 9 years in college maybe? SCUBA? I suppose it depends on your definition of adventurous.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Depends on why I’m going. For SCUBA? Probably Micronesia. For flowers? Probably Ecuador or Holland. For Hot Springs? Iceland. For Wine? Erm… Napa? Willamette? Tuscany?
